Spring Fever and Chipmunks
Okay, so Spring is almost upon us and I am bittersweet about the change. I have loved the snow and the cozy mornings under covers, but the beautiful Spring blossoms make my soul dance for joy.
I will acknowledge that the move from the ocean to the mountains comes with a big temperature change. On the coast, the temperatures are very warm and are filled with humidity. If you have curly hair, this is a problem (I’m just saying, you were warned). This is not to diminish the privileges of living near the ocean. Salt water is definitely a cure for whatever ails you. However here in the mountains, the weather is significantly cooler and I love it.
I love the sense of renewal that comes with the seasonal transition. There is a sort of cleansing that washes over every part of our lives and makes room for the new. I love the sound of birds chirping and squirrels scurrying across the lawn. My personal favorite is the return of the chipmunks (By the way, this is a great movie title). The little creatures are incredibly cute and are unfortunately way too fast for pictures. Have you seen chipmunks before? I had never seen them until my move and they are definitely entertaining.
Produce markets will reopen. The shelves of honey glowing in the sun, the colorful produce and the sweet fruit that beckons customers near and far. Produce markets are a big deal up here. Everyone has their favorite stand, or stands, and frequents them regularly. I have my personal favorite and cannot wait till the stand reopens in April.
With all this change and beauty surrounding you, take time out of your day to notice the small things. If you have positive changes that you need to make in your life, now is the perfect time. Anything that will make your soul as light as the breezy feeling of Spring. Take time to enjoy and savor all the things the season has to offer.
“TAKE TIME OUT OF YOUR DAY TO NOTICE THE SMALL THINGS.”
If I sound a bit too Pollyannaish, blame it on the weather. I will begin to introduce recipes with local produce soon. Make sure to check back! There are a couple already posted that are simple and easy to make. The recipes are located under the Simple Musings link at the top of the page. Also, let me know in the comments if you have any suggestions!
Sincerely,
Cameron Cait
